Tata-mi mats are traditional floor coverings that have been used in Japan for centuries. Their history is very old, with references to "tatami" found in the Kojiki, compiled in 715 AD, showing that the custom of layered floor coverings has been known for over 1,300 years. Tatami offers air-purifying, deodorizing, and humidity-regulating effects, making it well suited to Japan’s humid climate with its frequent weather changes.
