📖 HISTORY

※ Statue of Myoue Shonin sitting on a tree (Early Kamakura period, early 13th century)

The Za-fu is a traditional cushion used in Zen meditation practice and has long been used in Japan. Since the Kamakura period (from the 12th century onward), when Zen Buddhism spread throughout Japan, it has been passed down as an essential tool supporting monastic training. By helping stabilize the body and maintain correct posture, it is well suited for long periods of seated meditation.
